Miscellaneous preferences

On the Miscellaneous tab of the preferences dialog you can exclude disks having a certain fragmentation level, adjust cluster map options and set whether the program has to be minimized to the system tray or not.

By default UltraDefrag does not skip disks having low fragmentation level, because even if the level is low some essential system files may be fragmented and their fragmentation may affect system performance significantly.

For the cluster map the program uses the following settings by default:

  • Map block size: 4
  • Grid line width: 1
  • Free space color: white
  • Grid color: black

You may decrease the map block size to increase resolution of the map. However, the higher resolution the map has the more RAM the program needs to store the map in memory. The default value is a good deal: the map has a good resolution and the RAM consumption is moderate.

Additionally the grid line width can be set to zero to increase the map resolution even more, at the cost of higher RAM consumption.

Feel free to change also the free space and grid colors, especially if the default high contrast color scheme is not comfortable enough for you. Currently the program does not support customization of other colors. If you think it would be a great feature feel free to drop us a note and we’ll consider to add it to the next release of UltraDefrag.

The system tray minimization option is useful to save space on the task bar. If the option is checked the program will add an icon to the system tray:

If you will minimize UltraDefrag then the program will disappear from the task bar. Don’t worry, just click on the system tray icon to restore the program. Also you can right click the icon to open its context menu from which you can pause and resume defragmentation:
